Book Blurb:
Toronto good girl Lexi Reynolds, has always followed the rules and put the desires of those she loves above her own. As it turns out…it was all for nothing. Ulterior motives are a bitch.
A new city and a fresh start is just what Lexi needs. What she doesn’t need though, is a man. Lexi’s determined to find her own path this time, without the help of a man by her side or in her bed.
Women are a means to an end for Jean-Marc Dubois. He spends his time on the run from responsibility and commitment, except when it comes to his business. His Montréal tattoo shop is his pride and joy. His art is his release. Nothing else matters. That is of course, until drop dead gorgeous Lexi Reynolds unexpectedly walks into his life.
Different lives, different cities, different languages. Having nothing to lose is sometimes a good thing…until it isn’t.
***This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.***
Wow, where to start. I had to take a day after finishing the book to process my emotions, because this book will lead you on a roller coaster of emotions. Caution: Whiplash may happen. Lexi was not the most becoming charter, when I first started this book. She reminded me of a brainwashed Stepford wife. I wanted to just reach into the book and shake some sense into her, luckily, she gets to figuring that out for herself. She realizes that Jason is a worm and her mother, quite frankly, is extremely toxic. However, I believe that when it comes to socialites, we are all lead to believe this is how they behave. Weather or not that is true I can’t say. I ran through a lot of emotions when it came to Lexi, including frustration and exasperation. I just kept thinking to myself “get your shit together!” Luckily she does. It takes her sometime with a lot of tears and some serious soul searching to get there, but that is how characters grow. As far as J.M goes he is definitely your typical asshole leading man that you later find has a squishy middle. Not literally, because his body is rocking, but he has a sweet soul. It just takes some time for it to come out. At first I thought maybe their relationship was a little toxic, but when you throw in each characters issues (I don’t want to give away the story.) you can realize that they are both just growing. J.M has a tendency to jump to conclusions, but if you have been burned badly enough, you might too.
The author is a very talented writer, but I wish I could have glimpsed into J.M mind just a little. While we know how Lexi feels, when she isn’t self doubting, we have no idea how J.M feels. The intensity of him emotions for Lexi seems to come out of no where. Luckily, you can feel the true emotions of their relationship as the story progresses. However, can I take the time here to mention what DICKS his friends are. Just because someone doesn’t look or act like you, doesn’t mean a relationship doesn’t work. Sometimes the best relationships are those opposite of yourself. As J.M friends it wouldn’t hurt to be a little more supportive of him.
As a whole I really did love this story. The author has a good handle on catching the readers emotions and making you think “what the fuck!” at least a dozen times. The sex scenes are hot and the tattoo session is utterly sweet. One of the best ways to say I love you without the curse of tattooing your bf name to your body. I highly recommend this read to anyone that wants love from a tattooed bad boy.
